Nitrogen Removal and Headworks Upgrade – Barnstable, MA
This work included demolition of the existing pretreatment building, coarse screening equipment, and aerated grit removal system • Installation of a new headworks facility which will include coarse screening removal, grit removal, flow measurement, and odor control • Installation of a new septage receiving building and septage receiving equipment • Installation of a new fine screening building with fine screening equipment required to protect the MBR • Installation of a new aeration basin splitter structure with provisions for 5 aeration basins in the future • Conversion of the three existing aeration tanks from an MLE process to a 4 stage Bardenpho process • Installation of a fourth aeration tank to meet initial design flows and flow equalization and provisions for a future fifth tank • Modification of the existing blower building to house new compressors. The new electrical service will also be housed here • Installation of an intermediate pumping station to convey flow from the aeration tanks to the MBR • Installation of an MBR system. The new MBR facility will consist of membrane cassettes, air scour system, return sludge pumps, filtrate pumps, chemical cleaning systems, and associated maintenance equipment • A new process building to house additional MBR equipment, including a new plant water system and electrical systems • Installation of a deoxygenation box to strip air from the return activated sludge • Demolition and replacement in kind of the existing effluent pumps • Installation of a standby generator and required upgrades to the electrical service • Instrumentation and process control upgrades as required for each new facility/equipment system • Installation of HVAC mechanical equipment for each new facility. • Installation of plumbing and plant water equipment and appurtenances for each new facility • Site work, including yard piping, plant water system upgrades, drainage, landscaping, and grading
